It’s #wisewordswednesday! That means an advice article follows. This one is mostly targeted for incoming freshman, but if you are a current college student this may also help you. Here are just a few tips that I either received or wish I would have received. I hope it helps!

1. Go to class.

You’ve probably heard this one once or twice, but there’s a reason for that. It’s a good tip! I very rarely miss class and my grades can prove that. Trust me sometimes you need to. But if it’s not necessary to skip your class, don’t do it.

2. Know which classes you can do.

There are some classes (and/or professors) that you won’t be able to take. Drop it and take something else. Remember, you are paying for this.

3. Get involved.

Get involved in something. It’s a great way to make friends and have some fun. On almost every college campus there is something for you to get involved in.

4. Make sure you keep in touch with your family.

Homesickness in college is real. Trust me I’ve been there. As ready as you are now, a few weeks after being there you will start missing your home. So call your parents, grandparents, siblings, and whoever else. They’d love to hear from you.

5. Learn from mistakes.

College isn’t just about parties and fun. In fact, if you’re not a party person I would recommend not even getting involved in that aspect of college. You don’t need it to have a good time. You’ll make mistakes in college. You can’t avoid them, but you can learn from them. So don’t be afraid.

6. Learn balance and prioritize.

I didn’t (and still don’t) have the beset time management skills or organizational skills. But in college you get better or you don’t do very good in school. Procrastination is huge in college, but avoid it at all costs. Trust me.

7. Learn about yourself.

You will ever have this opportunity again. Take it and seize every opportunity. After college it’s a job, maybe a family, responsibility, etc. So take these four years to really figure out who you are.

These are my top seven tips for all college students really, but especially you newbies. College can be kind of scary, but if you keep these seven things in mind, I think you’ll be just fine.
