How to Stop Settling for Less

I’ve had my ups and downs in life. And like most people I get confused and frustrated. I feel defeated and broken when things don’t go my way. But I have recently had a change of heart. I realized not long ago that I have more control than I think. I always used to sit back and wait for opportunities to come to me. I never took chances and I was never a risk-taker. And I’m still not really. But I’m learning that with everything I do, I will either get what I want or learn something from it. No failure is pointless and no success is too small. I used to settle for the first thing that came my way because I thought maybe that was the best I could do. There was no guarantee that I would have another opportunity. So I settled out of fear of the unknown.

But fear doesn’t have to be negative. It can be the best motivation we have. You don’t have to settle for something just because you’re too scared to keep looking. Stop waiting for opportunities to come to you. Nothing great in life comes easy. We have to work hard and put in a lot of time and effort to truly be successful. Opportunities come daily, but the perfect opportunity is one in a million. But when you find it (not when it comes to you) it will be worth the hard work and perseverance. Nothing in life comes easy. We must take control when we can.

Something I know I am guilty of is blaming others when I don’t get what I want. It’s always something someone else did or didn’t do. However, the truth is, I just should have been more focused. We don’t like to admit that we make mistakes and sabotage our own success. It’s easier to place the blame on someone else. But we need to stop blaming others when we don’t get our way. One of the best things you can do for yourself is own up when you make a mistake. We fail. It’s a part of life. But how you react to it and what you learn from it is the most important thing.

If you want great success you have to put in great effort. There are many times when we do only what is expected of us and still expect great rewards. You get out what you put in. Do more than the bare minimum. If you do more than what is expected you are more likely to stand out. Do I need to post everyday? Probably not. Is it excessive? Yes. But I know if I want people to keep coming back there has to be something to come back to. I know I don’t have the best blog, but I have the best blog I can have. I put in the effort I know I need to to have a successful blog. And the more I invest, the better it will become.

You can’t be successful if you don’t know what you are doing or what you want. As crazy as it sounds we are always expecting great things to come out of thin air. But that’s not realistic. To reach your goals, you first have to set them. Once you know what you want, you can make a plan. And with that plan you can start achieving things. But without a plan, you only have dreams. Consider what is important to you and go from there.

Know what you want and don’t settle for anything less.
