What NOT To Bring To College

Hey guys! Welcome back. I recently did a post about what things you should pack for college, and I wanted to do one about the things you shouldn’t bring. Dorm space is very limited and you don’t want to bring things you will regret bringing. When I moved in my freshman year, there were so many things I regretted packing and taking and I wanted to share those things with you.

Excessive Decorations/Furniture It’s so easy to get caught up in the excitement that you want to decorate everything. But decorations can take up a lot of space and can be a hassle to put up and take down. That’s not to say you shouldn’t decorate your room because you definitely should, but keep it as minimal as you can.

Your Entire Wardrobe Chances are you will be going home before or during the change of seasons, so you can switch out your clothes then. You won’t have a lot of space to keep clothes, so you definitely want to limit yourself. Don’t bring clothes that are out of season or that you don’t wear when you are at home.

A Printer I regret taking my printer because I didn’t use it. Most schools, even small ones like the one I go to, have computer labs and libraries where you can print and copy things. And the money is already charged to your student account, so you may as well use it. Having a printer that you’re not using will just take up space.

An Ironing Board Because the chances of you actually ironing your clothes are slim. Because most of the time you can barely work up the effort to wash your clothes.

Collections I hate to admit it, but my freshman year I took my entire DVD collection. That was a big mistake. You don’t need to take your DVD collection, book collection, or anything else you may have been collecting over the years. When we spend a lot of time working on something and it means something to us, we want to be proud and show it off. But having these collections in a small dorm space just isn’t practical.

Stuffed Animals A few from your past that mean something to you is one thing. But don’t be that person that brings them all. It just takes up too much space.

High School Apparel As you enter college you will get plenty of college apparel. So you don’t need your old high school stuff anymore. You want to take pride in your new school and show your spirit.

Anything Your Roommate Already Has Find out what your roommate is bring and what you should bring. Decide what will be shared and what won’t.

Excessive Dishes Dishes can take up a lot of space as well if you’re not careful. I recommend buying dishes you can wash and reuse. Many people opt for paper and plastic dining ware, but that could cost you a pretty penny in the long run. So just wash your dishes instead.

Those are all of things I regret buying and taking to school with me. I hope this was helpful to someone out there. Please check out my College Checklist post if you haven’t already and need some ideas on what you should bring. Please like this and comment down below some of the things you regret buying for your college dorm. Also don’t forget to follow if you’re not already and I will see you next time.
