Hey guys! Welcome back. Blogmas is going strong and I have encountered several of your Blogmas posts and I really enjoy them. Thank you for sharing them with me. Today is how to survive family gatherings because honestly, more often than not, there is going to be one that throws you for a loop. Even though it’s not meant to happen, sometimes there are things we have to force ourselves through when it comes to holidays. So here are a few tips and tricks on how to make it through.
Avoid Politics. This is a rule I abide by at all costs all year, but when you get your entire family in the same room it’s bound to come up. I avoid including my input because my opinions are far too radical and modern for the other members of my family. It’s a good idea to avoid this topic if you don’t share the same views as your family because things could get really heated, really quickly.
Have something to talk about. When it inevitably comes up, “What’s new with you?”, it’s good to have at least one thing to say. One is enough because after that one thing they will probably move on to someone or something else. Talk about something you are proud of or did well. Talk about your grades, a relationship, something you are/were a part of. Try to avoid talking about the wild parties or many hookups if you can. Your family may not approve of such behavior.
Know that they mean well. They may be a pain sometimes, but they mean well. Sometimes they can be a little off-center and make you want to pull your hair, teeth, and eyeballs out, but they can’t help it. Just remember that they don’t realize what they are doing and telling them wouldn’t end well.
Enjoy your time. It may be a struggle, but at the end of it all, it’s okay. Remember to enjoy your time and be thankful for all that you have. It’s not everyday you get see everyone together. Make the most of it while you can. If anything, you can show how much you have changed and how well you are doing.
