Hey guys! Welcome back. Blogmas is coming to an end in just a few days, and I am a little sad about it. This has been great fun and I look forward to doing it again next year. I hope you have all been enjoying it as much as I have. I have enjoyed reading some of your Blogmas posts. Today I thought my Blogmas post would be about blogging for the new year. This was my first year of blogging and I made some progress, but I wanted to note some things I want to do differently or the same in 2018. I thought Blogmas was a great time to do this because it is wrapping up this year and leading into next. I hope you enjoy this. Let me know in the comments if there is anything you would like to see differently or more or less of next year.

The first thing I plan to do is audit my posts from this year. I am going to go back and look at which posts were the most successful and which posts were duds. I will begin planning my posts for next year based on that. The posts that did the best this year surprised me a little bit, so I look forward to seeing what I come up with in 2018 and what you guys respond to.

Another thing I want to do is give the blog a fresh look. I might redo the design and background. I thought it would be cool to create a logo for the brand. Let me know if you have any tips for that. I want to adjust the look of the blog and make it look a little cleaner. I want to clean up the look of the blog and make it easier to find things and sort through things. I want it to look fun and fresh.

I also want to make the blog more simple. I want to declutter and get rid of some unneeded things. I want to remove widgets and plug-ins that aren’t being used. I want to straighten up my posts and make them easier to access. I want it to be simple and straight forward. Not a jumbled mess with unnecessary things here and there.

A few months ago I kind of made a transition in my blog. I want to do that more coming into the next chapter of my blogging journey. I think it is incredibly important to target your blog to a specific audience. That doesn’t mean I think only certain people should read my blog. I just think that my blog should have a purpose, a target audience. What I want is for it do be a college blog. College students reach out to me the most when it comes to commenting and requesting specific posts, so that is what I am doing. My blog will be mostly college related. I will talk about college and things that college students are interested in. I will always take requests from anyone about anything, but when planning my posts they will be geared towards people my own age.

Another thing I want to do is orient myself. I launched my blog with little planning because I honestly never thought it would get anywhere. However with 130+ followers, I think it is time to start planning and delegating more. My readers deserve that. I want to build an email list and start being really serious about my blog. I have always been serious, but it has always been less intentional than I would prefer it to be. I want a plan and I want to push it to be all that it can be.

I want to try to learn as much as possible from other bloggers. There are so many out there, both professional and otherwise and there is so much to learn. I want to build relationships with other bloggers so I can really grow and strengthen my writing. I want to do collaborations and write about new topics.

Another thing I really want for my blog in the new year is a documentation process checklist. I want to make sure I do every possible task for my posts every single time. Do you have one? Is it effective. I think with the writing, editing, photos, social media managing, keeping up with comments, and everything else needed in blogging, having a checklist would be extremely helpful. If you would like me to share it when I make one let me know in the comments. If you have any tips, share those as well.

I know that planning for a new year is stressful and overwhelming, but I don’t want to go into it blind. I want to give my readers and followers the best possible experience, whether they are new to my blog or have been here from the beginning. I am so excited to start off the new year.

In light of new beginnings I thought I would start off the new year with a surprise. So from now until January 15th I am hosting a giveaway. One lucky winner will win a gift card (to be determined later). It will be gender neutral I promise. Let me know in the comments what kind of gift card you would like to have. There are a couple of ways to enter the giveaway. One is to comment a question for my Q&A for my Blogmas post coming up tomorrow. It must be a new question and it must be commented on this post. So if you have already asked a question, ask another one. Another way to enter is to remain active until the giveaway ends. Comment on my posts, follow me on social media, etc. Anything you think will help me notice you and remember you. Of course you can do both of these. Doing both will increase your chances at winning. The winner will be chosen at random based on the person I choose. The more your name shows up in my notifications, the more likely you are to win.

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed this. Please like it if you did. I hope you are as excited for this giveaway as I am! Don’t forget to follow before you leave if you have not already (you must be a follower to enter the giveaway-I will be checking!) and I hope to see you next time!
