What To Do When You Are Feeling Overwhelmed In College

Hey guys! Welcome back. I am sure we have all felt overwhelmed in college at least once. Some of us multiple times. Being stressed and overwhelmed is part of the college experience. It means you are trying. However, sometimes we get overwhelmed and it becomes too much. Luckily for most of us, Summer Break is a time to reflect on our college journey thus far and see where we stand. We can reflect on what has happened and see what we need to do from there. Summer is an excellent time to spend with yourself and kick those anxieties and feeling overwhelmed.

The first thing you can do to stop feeling so overwhelmed is spend some time alone to rejuvenate. After all the chaos and the end of the semester, take some time to yourself. Even if you don’t go anywhere, it’s good to just be alone and relax.

Another great thing to do is sort out your thoughts. Make a list of everything on your mind. Write down everything you feel, both good and bad. It might be a good idea to keep the lists separate so you can compare which one is longer. If the positives are longer, you can feel at ease. If the negatives are longer, it might be time to make some changes. Either way, you will have a better understanding of where your head is.

Another thing I lie to do to clear my head and relax a bit is get moving. Getting exercise is a great way to cool down. Usually when I’m at school I go walk around campus. It’s pretty peaceful most of the time. At home I just go outside and walk around or something. Anything that doesn’t involve sitting in my room.

I constantly worry about everything. But one thing that helps is focusing on the problem and seeing if there is a solution I can bring about. Stop worrying about things you cannot change. We don’t have control over everything unfortunately. So you will begin feeling so much less overwhelmed if you don’t worry about things you have no control over and focus on what you do have control over.
