Hey guys! Welcome back. I am coming back today with another college post for you. With a new semester on it’s head it’s good to have some tips on how to utilize one of the most nerve wrecking parts of college: visiting your professors. Many students are often scared or unaware of office hours, but they have their benefits. So I wanted to share with you some tips on how you can utilize office hours to your full advantage.

1. Don’t be scared. There is no reason to be afraid of visiting your professor in their office. Part of their job is to help you and be available outside of the classroom. If you need help or missed a day, don’t be afraid to visit your professor. It shows you are taking your education, and their class, seriously. They appreciate that.

2. Go while you still have time. Go a week before the paper is due, not the day before. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to ask all the questions you need and get all the advice you can. Professors are much more willing to help you if they see you are not waiting until the last minute to start something.

3. Go prepared. Know what questions you want to ask. Make a list so you aren’t just sitting there trying to figure out what you don’t know. Also take a pad and paper so you can take notes and write down everything. Don’t depend on your memory alone to remember everything the professor says.

4. Don’t be shy. If you don’t understand something, speak up. You are there to understand and ask questions, so don’t be ashamed. Not everyone understands everything the first time. Don’t be afraid to ask your professor to clarify something or explain something another way. There is no shame in it.

5. Go regularly. Getting to know your professor has it’s benefits. While it’s great to get your questions answered, do a follow up with your professor. Let them know that their time was helpful and that you appreciate them sitting down with you. Being kind and professional will help you stand out more in the classroom.

Those are my tips for getting the most out of office hours. What are some of yours? Let us know in the comments! Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope this is helpful. Please like it if it is. Don’t forget to follow before you leave if you have not already and I hope to see you next time!
