Hey guys! Welcome back! I hope you had a great week. Today I wanted to talk about excuses. Because we all make them. We all allow them to come in and take control of what we do, and more importantly, what we don’t do. So today I wanted to share with you the excuses that are ruining your life. These excuses are preventing you from living your best life. You may not realize it, but you might be using at least one of these excuses pretty regularly.

1. “I’ll do it someday.”

I hate to break it to you, but someday is not a day of the week. Someday does not exist. If it is something that is really important to you, you will make a plan and set a deadline. You will start working today to make it happen. That is the best way to avoid this particular excuse. Procrastination is one of the biggest killers of our dreams and goals. So don’t wait for someday. Start now.

2. “I don’t have the time right now.”

This is a big one. People are always saying that they don’t have time. But usually that is not the case at all. The reality is you probably don’t want to make the time. Because if you sit back and look at how you are spending your time everyday, you can probably make ten to twenty minutes to start or work on whatever it is you need or want to do. Saying you don’t have the time is a cop out excuse that is just prolonging your happiness.

3. “There’s nothing I can do about it.”

People everyday walk around disliking an aspect of their life and refusing to do anything about it. They believe that there is nothing they can do about it. But that’s not true. There is something they can do about it. If there is a part of your life that you are unhappy with, you can change it. You have the power. It may take some time and some thought, but you can do it. You just have to want to.

4. “I don’t know how to.”

This isn’t an excuse if you say it and then make the effort to try and figure it out. But if you say it as a way out of doing something, it’s an excuse. You don’t know everything and that is perfectly fine. But it’s up to you to figure out how to. And if you can’t, ask for help. Don’t let not knowing hold you back. There is probably someone you know who can help you figure it out.

5. “I need to get more feedback first.”

I used to use this one all the time. And guess what? It really did hold me back. By using this excuse I was telling myself that I needed other people’s permission to do what I wanted. But between you and me, you don’t need anyone else’s opinion. What you want is already validated just by you going after it. If it is something you really want and are willing to work for, you don’t need the permission of anyone else.

6. “That might work for some people, but it won’t work for me.”

That’s not really what you are saying here. What you are saying is they are applying things to their life that you are not willing to do in your own life. I’m not saying you should do exactly what someone else does and you will get the same results. But it’s all about hard work, perseverance, and will power. If you are willing to apply these to whatever it is you want, you can get there.

7. “I don’t know what I want.”

You do know what you want, you’re just not ready to admit it. I know because I’ve been there. It’s extremely likely that you probably do know what you want and you’re just scared. But don’t let this excuse hold you back. Instead of telling yourself that you don’t know what you want, accept that you do know but you don’t have the courage to go after it yet. This removes the denial and helps you begin to find the courage.

8. “No one really cares.”

When I started my blog I didn’t think that anyone would care. I didn’t think anyone would read it. But guess what? I started it anyway. It was scary. I was worried that no one would read it. But I knew I had to try. And now looking back at all the people I have helped and inspired, it was worth it. And I’m glad I didn’t let that excuse hold me back from starting my blog.

9. “It’s not the right time.”

It’s never the right time. The perfect moment will never come. You will never fully be ready. And that’s just the reality. Life is not perfect, so you have to stop waiting for that moment when everything comes together to come. Because it won’t. You have to take control of your own life and take responsibility for the things you are doing and not doing. Don’t blame it on timing.

10. “I wish I could, but I can’t.”

This is probably the worst. You wish you could do it, but you can’t. You can you just don’t want to. It’s all about having the stamina to go after what you want. If it is something you want, you have to be willing to work for it. You can’t ask for a cake and when God gives you all the ingredients, decide it’s too much work and walk out of the kitchen. You have to work for it, but if it’s really what you want, it will be worth it.

  1. I deal with these all the time, but your post made me feel better about pushing past those excuses and getting things done! I find that a lot of my excuses have roots in the fact that whatever I want to do is not “routine” for me. How am I supposed to make new things routine if I’m not willing to start? You know? Anyway, good post!

    1. Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I definitely understand that. I was that way when it came to working out. I couldn’t get in the habit of doing it and it was hard to make it a part of what I thought was a routine. Hopefully this inspires you to keep pushing yourself and always remember, just because you give up doesn’t mean you can’t start again.
