Hey guys! Welcome back. Today I wanted to share even more about my personal journey throughout my life. I used to be extremely shy. I didn’t want to talk to anyone. I didn’t want to be noticed. I just wanted to remain unseen and unheard. But then I started college and I realized that that was no way to live. So I started making changes and working on my confidence. It wasn’t the smoothest journey, but it has been worth it. And today I wanted to share with you how I did that.

Feel the fear and do it anyway.

One of the first steps to overcoming shyness is to just do whatever it is that you are keeping yourself from doing. Because you don’t just get rid of shyness. You have to work to put yourself out there and become more confident. The only real way to do that is to be afraid, but do it anyway. Let yourself live. You can’t let fear hold you back forever. I promise you will get better overtime.

By adopting this practice, I have been able to take into consideration that I am afraid in a situation, but allow myself to put my best foot forward. This method has helped me do some pretty challenging and bold things that I otherwise would not have done. This has helped me be more confident in being myself and not letting the shyness become the person I am.

Invest in yourself.

One of the best things I did to overcome my shyness is start my blog. It has allowed me to share my voice and learn my value as a person. It has shown me that I have a place in this world just like everyone else. But it has also allowed me to invest in myself. Running a successful blog full-time is not free and I have put a lot of time and money into this blog. By doing so, I have been able to overcome the shy feelings and know that I am capable of great things.

Investing in myself allowed me to train myself and figure out my strengths and weaknesses. This helped boost my confidence and gave me the ability to know that I can do things. I don’t have to hide in the shadows not wanting to be seen. Because I can be seen and heard. It has helped me feel much more comfortable with being uncomfortable and just being who I am.

Positive self-talk.

I am my own worst critic. There is nothing someone could say to me that I have not told myself. So it’s important to me when I am trying to overcome fears and be less shy that I talk positively about myself. This gives me the strength to trust that everything will work out for the best, even if it doesn’t go the way I planned. I have learned that I need to acknowledge both the good and the bad.

This helps me overcome my fears and allows me to know that things will work out the way they should. It has provided me with a strategy to overcome anything that scares me and just put myself out there. There is a plan for my life and I am sure it’s not to remain hidden in the shadows. So it has taken a long time and I’m still not perfect, but I know that I never will be. But it’s all about progress, not perfection.

  1. I am still shy. But, I think that I have overcome most of my shyness in other countries (Ukraine, Dominican Republic, and Colombia). Being around foreigners who accept me as I am, show interest in me as a human being, and help me build my social skills is something that I highly recommend to any American or Westerner who is dealing with extreme shyness.

    If you have poor social skills and difficulty in opening up to your family members, friends (if you have any), neighbors, and other locals, then maybe going overseas is your answer.
    You would not only meet and connect with awesome people from all around the world but also experience different cultures, eat exotic foods, and learn something new about yourself. Once you return home, you would become more confident, optimistic, and motivated to follow your dreams like I am.

    1. I understand that. I used to be the same way, and in some ways I still am. The idea is to just keep pushing yourself little by little and learning as you go. Just because you put yourself out there, doesn’t mean you will succeed. But it also doesn’t mean you will fail. But the same goes for not putting yourself out there. Staying in your comfort zone may seem like the best choice, but sometimes you just have to go for it. You owe it to yourself to do and be all that you can. It doesn’t mean that shyness is bad or that it makes you any less worthy, but if you don’t at least go for something, you will never know.
