Hey guys! Welcome back. I hope you are enjoying your weekend. A while back I shared a post about my struggles with binge eating and I got a really positive response. So I wanted to say thank you for all of your kind words because it really does mean so much to me. And today I wanted to share with you how I worked to stop binge eating. But I also want to say that I am not perfect and I still have struggles. But hopefully this helps you if you are also on the journey to quit.

Ditch the diet.

When it comes to binge eating, diets typically don’t work out very well. Because restricting yourself for any amount of time leads to binge eating later on. It is a viscous cycle that never seems to end. And I will admit, it is a very difficult cycle to break. But it is possible if you just ditch the diet and focus on building a healthy relationship with food and how you eat.

Avoid skipping meals.

It may seem like a good idea to skip meals, but in the long run it’s not. It often leads to those late night binge episodes when you are watching TV. If you eat three meals and opt for some snacks throughout the day, you are less likely to binge eat at night. So try regulating your meals throughout the day.

Practice mindfulness.

You don’t have to be a completely healthy eater to stop binge eating because ultimately that’s not what it’s about. Right now it’s just about cutting out the eating excessive amounts. So practicing mindfulness is a great way to ensure that you are only eating what you truly need to eat.

Eat more fiber.

This is something that really helped me. Making sure my body was getting enough fiber helped me stay full a lot longer. It helped me stay in control of what I was eating and kept me from wanting to eat all the time. I even started taking fiber vitamins in the morning to make sure I had enough to keep me from eating too much.

Clean out your kitchen.

If you don’t have things to binge eat, you can’t do it. Not keeping these things stocked in your kitchen can help reduce the chances that you will binge eat. Especially at night. So cleaning out your kitchen and getting rid of anything that you don’t really need can help reduce your risk of binge eating.

Keep a food journal.

A food journal can give you a great visual of what you are eating and how much you are eating. This can help you see what you really need to change and help you set goals to make those changes happen. It can help you move forward and understand where your problems really are.

Find a support system.

Having people around you that can support you as you try to change is super important. Having positive people who can lift you up can motivate and inspire you to keep going. They can help you believe in yourself. This support system can be friends, family, or even a therapist if you feel that will be the most effective.

Practice self care.

Self care can help you ease your chances of binge eating. Once I started prioritizing self care and making sure I was doing what was best for me, I stopped turning to food as much. I found ways to use my time that were productive and that I enjoyed. So self care is important to stopping the cycle of binge eating.
