Hey guys! Welcome back. Depression is a very real thing that I have struggled with and continue to struggle with everyday. But I have started to work through it and today I wanted to share with five things I am doing, or have done, to help overcome depression. I don’t know if my depression will ever fully go away, but I know that continuing to work to overcome it little by little really helps me. So here are five things I do to work towards overcoming my depression.

1. Stopped punishing myself.

I have had this really bad habit in the past of punishing myself for every little thing. I was really hard on myself for a really long time and it drug me down a lot. I wouldn’t forgive myself for anything and I just kept holding on to everything that went wrong. But once I stopped punishing myself all the time I felt more free. I was able to move past my negative feelings and really grow.

2. Don’t isolate myself.

I have found that my depression is at it’s highest when I isolate myself from others. When I don’t allow myself to get out of my room and interact with others I start to feel very alone and depressed. So I have to challenge myself to go spend time with people and talk and just have human interaction. This helps remind me that I am not alone and I am not walking this journey by myself. I have an amazing support system that really helps me get through those dark times.

3. Acknowledge what I feel and let it out.

I used to bottle up all of my feelings and never let anyone know how I was really doing. I would just put on a brave face and go out and never let anyone in. But I started to realize how much that was harming me. It was draining me mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I was really struggling to keep it all together. So I realized I needed to stop hiding what I was feeling and start letting it out. And really helped me start feeling a lot better and more content.

4. Set small goals.

Small goals give me something that I can really manage and work towards. I am able to achieve these small goals and I am more likely to get through everything. This reduces the chances of disappointment or failure. This way I can take small steps towards recovery and work towards a better future. Small goals help me see the progress I am making and keeps me motivated to keep going.

5. Find something to look forward to.

Having something to look forward to always helps me keep a positive mindset. This positive mindset helps me overcome the feelings of depression and the constant putting myself down. I am able to see that there are things worth living for and that I am working towards that better future. It gives me hope and I am comforted knowing that I am doing the very best that I can do.
