Signs You Might Be Self-Sabotaging

Hey guys! Welcome back. We are well into the new year, so today I wanted to come back with another post to help you hopefully upgrade your life a little bit. Because I think at the start of a new year we all have goals and plans and changes we want to make, but we don’t always see the progress we want as soon as we would like to. And sometimes that has a lot to do with what we are doing to ourselves. So today I wanted to share with you some signs that you might sabotaging yourself and the growth you want to see.

You are overplanning.

It doesn’t take a genius to know that if you plan too much and put too much on your plate that things won’t always work out. Planning is supposed to relieve stress and keep you from trying to do too much at one time. Therefore, overplanning actually does the opposite of what you are intending to do. You might like to be super organized and that’s a great thing, but if you are giving yourself too much to do you won’t be as organized as you think you will.

Searching for inspiration or motivation.

Just like overplanning, searching for the inspiration to do something is more of a waste of time than anything. Instead of just doing what you want and following your own path, you are spending precious time looking at what other people are saying and what they are doing. And while you keep looking for answers you might start to feel overwhelmed by what you are trying to accomplish or progress on and you might be more eager to just give up and not try anymore. So it’s best to just decide on what you want to do and how you want to reach your goals.

Not being committed.

It’s a struggle that we all face at one point or another. We set a goal for ourselves that we are not fully committed to and then we don’t really give our best effort. Or we start something and are fully committed but we don’t see the results we want as soon as we think we should have them and our commitment starts to waiver. But if you just give things a bit more time and you push through that period of not seeing a ton of results, you might be surprised at what is waiting on the other side. But you have to have the commitment to see things through.

Not being consistent.

We all have goals and we all have things that we would like to do or change. But a lack of consistency is one of the biggest things that causes us to just give up. One day we decide we really want to do something, but we don’t keep up with it and then eventually we just give up because we aren’t really working towards anymore and we don’t see the point in trying anymore. And this is where planning and making sure you make time for these things comes into play.

Overthinking everything.

I am one of the most guilty people for doing this. I really do constantly overthink everything. I don’t make decisions lightly and a lot of time goes into thinking about things. But I have learned that doing that holds me back more than I realize. I spend so much time thinking I can’t do things because I don’t have the right personality or the right look. I don’t think I’m the right person or other people do it better. I keep myself in a box and overthink who I am. Thinking I have to have a certain personality to be successful has held me back a lot, so I challenge you to always remember that you can be successful just as you are.

Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed this. Please like it if you did. Let us know in the comments if you know of any other ways we self-sabotage and hold ourselves back. Don’t forget to follow before you leave if you have not already and I hope to see you next time!

  1. Hi, for the most part I agree with you. I am keen on planning everything out and although some might think that it is a waste of time and is self-sabotaging it’s not. In the beginning I was honestly forgetful over little things and then when I started writing everything down and walking with my planner things became easier. Yes, there were times where I was overwhelmed and I still have those moments, but it pushes me to keep going and finish it. Sometimes you have to push yourself in uncomfortable situations. It takes longer for you to see the results but it is worth it in the long room. I love the way you delivered your message though, it made me look at things slightly different from someone else’s point of view. Thanks.
