I am learning to bake from scratch, everybody!
I’ve always loved cooking and baking. I was never really taught to cook when I was young, so back in college I started teaching myself. I’ve focused mainly on cooking dinner meals up until now. Whenever I’d bake, I’d use boxed mixes. But, recently, I’ve decided to go on a new adventure.
On Galentine’s Day, one of my besties and I spent the evening making cupcakes from scratch and watching Harry Potter. We went on this adventure together since neither she nor I had ever tried doing this. It was a blast.
Still, there is something wonderful about putting together and making your own recipe.
This week, I created my own chewy sugar cookie recipe. I made a batch yesterday to send to my friend. They were an absolute hit! My partner ate the whole plate of extras because he loved them so much.
If you’re looking for some tasty sugar cookies with a good crisp outside and chewy inside, this recipe is for you!
Chewy Sugar Cookies
This recipe makes 30-36 cookies depending on your size of cookie dough balls.
1 cup softened or partially melted butter
1 ½ cup of granulated sugar
1 ¼ tsp baking soda
½ tsp white vinegar
2 ¼ cups flour
¼ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp salt
1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
½ cup of granulated sugar for rolling
Preheat to 350 degrees
Cream together sugar and butter until fluffy
(Tip: Don’t overbeat butter or sugar or cookies will over-flatten)
Add egg and mix
Stir in dry ingredients (baking soda, baking powder, flour, cinnamon, and salt)
Add vanilla extract
Scoop and roll one to one and a half tbsps of dough
Coat and roll in sugar
Place on nonstick pan or pan with foil 1 ½ to 2 inches apart
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes
(Don’t worry if they don’t seem finished. The cookies will bake more out of the oven on the pan.)
Let them cool for 30 minutes, then enjoy!!!
I’m proud of how my recipe turned out, especially considering I don’t have a background in baking from scratch. I hope you will give these cookies a shot. They really have the perfect mix of crunch and ooey-gooey goodness. You won’t be disappointed!
Let me know how they turn out for you, and share this recipe with your friends!
