Hobbies That Are Good For Anxiety

Hey guys! Welcome back. I think it’s good for everyone to have a hobby, no matter who you are, because it gives you something you can make progress with. And there are so many hobbies out there and so many things to choose from. But today I want to focus on hobbies that are good for people who struggle with anxiety. It’s no secret that I struggle with anxiety and while I’m thankful that I found a hobby that I love, I wanted to share some other ideas for those who don’t enjoy writing the way I do.

But first I want to share that no hobby is the same as another hobby. Some hobbies are good for people with anxiety because they are relaxing and get you out of having to be super social. Some hobbies can being you closer to people who enjoy the same thing as you if you are struggling to make friends. And some hobbies can help with anxiety because it encourages you to push out of your comfort zone and try new things. And with that I wanted to share with you some hobbies that are good if you have anxiety.

Photography.

Photography is a good hobby for people with social anxiety. There are so many different subjects to photograph and it’s something that can even turn into a profession if you find that you have a passion for it. One of the best things about having photography as a hobby is that you can talk to as many, or as few, people as you want. You don’t have to be massively social.

Growing a garden.

Gardening is a more difficult hobby if you don’t have a super green thumb. But gardening is a really good hobby to have because you are nurturing and caring for something. It encourages you to get outside more and breathe in some fresh air. You get some Vitamin D and you start to feel better. It also gives you something to focus on to distract you from any anxious thoughts.

Walking/Running.

I have talked about this a few times on the blog, but walking is one of my favorite things to do when I am stressed, worried, or struggling with anxious thoughts. When I was in college it was something that I did quite often in the afternoon. Walking or running outside allows you to get some fresh air, burn some calories, and clear your mind. It’s a super simple habit, but it’s super effective for me.

Crafting.

Making something with your own hands is great for anyone who is creative. You can make your own clothes, jewelry, furniture, or decorations. It an be a great distraction from any anxious thoughts you are having and can relax you a great deal. It also allows you to do something that is uniquely yours. You can put your own twist and design on things and it’s a lot of fun.

Writing.

Obviously this is a big one for me, but I still wanted to include it on this list. I have talked many times about how having a blog has helped with my anxiety. But when I say writing as a hobby, I don’t mean it has to be a blog. Just keeping a journal for yourself is a great way to get out any negative or anxious thoughts to make room for more positivity. It’s a creative way to process your feelings and work through them.

Art.

Painting, drawing, sculpting, and more are great ways to relieve stress and anxiety. Unfortunately I am not super artistic, but I think if you are artistic then you should use you skills and talents. Art is another creative way to process your feelings and use it as a way to escape everyday life. Create things that reflect who you are and how you feel. Art is a really great way to express yourself no matter how you feel.

Reading.

I think reading is something that many of us could do more of. Self-help and personal development books are great options for someone struggling with anxiety because they can provide you with great insight and tools to deal with your anxious thoughts. But you could also turn to nonfiction, fiction, or even poetry to just have an escape for a little while. There are so many great books out there that can really help.

Cooking/Baking.

This is another one where you are creating something, but I think it is such a good one. I love cooking and baking because it forces me to focus and pay attention to what I am doing. I don’t have a chance to think anything negative or slip into anxious thoughts. I am solely focused on what I am making. So cooking and baking are really great to take your mind off of other things for a while.

Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed this. Please like it if you did. Let us know in the comments what your favorite hobby is or one you want to try! Don’t forget to follow before you leave if you have not already and I hope to see you next time!
