Hey guys! Welcome back. I hope you are having a fantastic day. Today I wanted to share the things I do to feel better about myself when I am down. I go through moments where I don’t feel my best or I’m just not going through a great time. So having these things that I know will help me feel a bit better really does have an impact because I know those negative feelings won’t last forever. So here are 15 things that I do when I need to feel better about myself.
When I’m having a bad day, things aren’t going the way I want them to, or I just can’t seem to catch a break, something I really like to do is visualize. I will just sit alone with my thoughts for a few minutes and really try to visualize everything working out. It might sound a bit strange, but it helps me see more positively.
Even if I have to force myself to smile, I find that it does help me. I feel a whole lot better when I am smiling. So when I’m having a bad day I just try to smile so that I can lift my spirits a little bit and move on with my day. It’s even better if I smile at someone else and make their day brighter too.
3. Make a list of things I’m proud of.
Too often I focus on things that I don’t accomplish or can’t do. I forget about the things that I have done and the things I should be recognizing. So when I am feeling down about myself I always try to sit down and list the things that I have accomplished and want to remember.
4. Talk to a friend.
It’s always good to have a friend that you can talk to when you aren’t feeling your best. Sometimes just talking it out is a really great way to work through what you are going through or just feel a bit better. So on my bad days I always try to reach out to someone and talk things through.
5. Give myself a manicure.
I love the feeling of freshly painted nails, so on the days when I really need some lifting up I will sit down for a little bit and do my nails. Sometimes I will watch a video or listen to a podcast while I do my nails, but more often than not it’s just me focusing on my nails and nothing else for a while.
6. Revisit my goals.
I always have goals that I am trying to reach, both short-term and long-term. So on the days when I feel really low I look back at my goals to see what I am trying to accomplish. And then I will look to see what I can do in that moment to work towards reaching on of those goals.
7. Do a workout.
Working out and moving the body is a great way to raise your energy and feel a lot better, both physically and mentally. The only bad workout in my eyes is the one I don’t do. So when I need something to really feel good I will do a workout and just take my mind off of things for a while.
8. Do a face mask.
Who doesn’t love a good face mask? Regardless of what kind of skin you have, we all have a favorite face mask that helps us feel so much better. There are so many out there to choose from and you really do have endless options. Face masks are one of my favorite ways to relax.
9. Cry it out.
This one might seem a little sad, and maybe it is. But I really believe in the power of just letting your feelings out and just crying if you need to. And sometimes I just really need to. So when I’m feeling sad or down, I just like to have a good cry. And it really does help more often than not.
10. Write down what I’m grateful for.
One of the most important things to me is gratitude. I think it is so important to always be thankful for what you have because it could be gone in an instant. So on those tough days I like to sit down and write down all of the things that I am thankful for and it helps me gain perspective and clarity.
11. Take a walk.
This is another one of my absolute favorite ways to relax. And now that it’s getting warmer, maybe I will be able to go outside and walk a little bit. But any chance I get to go for a walk it really relieves so much stress and helps me clear my head. So this is something I do as much as possible.
12. Listen to music.
When I go for a walk I am usually listening to music, but I listen to music all the time regardless. I have so many different Spotify playlists for all of my different moods and emotions. I love music because it really helps me feel connected and not so alone. Music helps heal me.
Cleaning is super satisfying and something I love to do. So when I really need to be lifted up I will turn on a cleaning video and start cleaning myself. It’s such a relief and it really takes my mind off of everything else going on. I always feel better after spending some time cleaning.
14. Have something sweet.
I have a really big sweet tooth, so when I am feeling super down I allow myself to have something sweet. It’s just a nice little moment I like to have and it really does help me feel a little better. I really enjoy being able to do little things like that just to step away and enjoy something like that.
15. Watch a TV Show or movie.
I love watching funny TV Shows like The Office when I am feeling down. It really lifts my spirits and acts as an escape for a little while. It’s not anything super productive, but it is really helpful and I find it to be one of my favorite things to do when I am just not having a good day.
