A Few Goal-Setting Tips That Help Me

Hey guys! Welcome back. I really like having goals because they keep me focused and help me stay on top of what I would like to accomplish. But I also know that setting goals can sometimes be a bit tricky. And that is why about a year ago I had to figure out some things that work for in terms of how I want to set goals for me. These won’t necessarily work for everyone, but they are the things that work for, so I wanted to share them with you in case you are looking for some tips.

Write them out on paper.

For some reason writing my goals down on paper really helps me. I always share my monthly goals with all of you here on the blog, but I also like to write them down on a piece of paper. I find it to be oddly satisfying and also very practical because then I can post them somewhere where I can see them everyday and remind myself of what they are. I also try to say them out loud as often as I can because hearing things also really helps me.

Writing them down and speaking them out loud helps bring my goals to life. Talking about things, even if it’s just to myself, helps me work through them and sparks some motivation within myself. It is a little weird the first couple of times that you do it, but after a while you get used to it and you really start to see the benefits of writing down your goals and speaking them into existence. These things just make your goals more real and gives you the motivation to achieve them.

Keep it simple.

Something else that really helps me is keeping my goals simple. I don’t have goals that I don’t think I can achieve. I only set goals for myself that I know I can do. It keeps things simple and realistic. I may not always achieve all of my goals every month, but the less goals I set for myself the more of a possibility I have of making them happen. The more simple things are, the better off I am in the long run. It allows me to prioritize the things that I want to achieve and make them happen.

Now, that isn’t to say that I don’t set high expectations for myself and step out of my comfort zone with my goals because I do that quite often. However, I try not to go overboard and if there are months where I have a lot going on I won’t reach too far with my goals because I know I am giving myself unrealistic expectations. So it is always better to make sure if you want to challenge yourself that you do it is a smart and reasonable way.

Don’t give up.

Setting goals is important and if it is something that you really want to achieve then it’s something you have to work for. Even if you don’t accomplish it the first month you try, try again another time. Don’t just give up because you hit a bump along the way or you go down a different path. You have to realize that sometimes life happens and we don’t always get around to everything we hope to. But you just have to keep working and keep trying because if you work hard enough you can do it.

There have been so many times that I wanted to accomplish something but other things got in the way and I didn’t get to achieve that goal one month. But I always try to come back to it. If it’s not the very next month I will revisit it a few months down the line. Just don’t give up because something doesn’t work out the way you wanted it to because life doesn’t always go as planned. We can’t always go based on what we think should happen because if we did nothing would ever get accomplished.
