23 Lessons Learned In 23 Years!!!

Hey guys! Welcome back! Today is my 23rd birthday!!! In honor of that I wanted to share 23 lessons I have learned in the last 23 years of my life. Most of these have come up in the last few years, but nonetheless I actually managed to come up with 23 lessons I have learned in the last 23 years of life. So hopefully you take something away from this post and learn a life lesson you can carry with you.

1. Enjoy the little things in life.

I have learned within the past few years that life is just too short to not find joy as often as possible. And with that comes finding joy in as many of the little things as possible. Whether it’s spending time with people you love, watching your favorite show, or celebrating a small, but meaningful win, enjoying those little things help you be more grateful for what you have in life and where you are going.

2. Everything happens for a reason.

This is such a big lesson I have learned and I was reminded of this over the past couple of months. When one door closes another door will open. You just have to be patient and trust when the timing is right it will come to you. Everything bad that happens leads to something good if you are patient and just trust that it will all work out the way it is meant to.

3. You can’t please everyone.

I used to be complacent. I used to try to make everyone happy. I tried to be a person that everyone could love and want to be around. But I quickly learned that it’s impossible to please everyone because everyone has different thoughts on who you should be. So now I just do the best I can and for the right people I will be enough just as I am.

4. Kindness goes a long way.

Kindness really helps brighten people’s day and helps them move forward with confidence and happiness. I have seen the value of kind people who are willing to help as much as they can. I also strive to show kindness to the people who are kind to me and build relationships that center around being kind and uplifting. Those are the best kinds of relationships.

5. Life doesn’t have a set timeline.

Life doesn’t always go the way we plan it. It doesn’t necessarily go in the same order as everyone else’s. Sometimes we go forward, sometimes we go backwards, and sometimes we stay still for quite a while. But life doesn’t have a timeline, so don’t stress out too much about your life not looking like everyone else’s. Your journey is unique to yourself.

6. Skin care is so important.

Over the years I have learned the importance of skin care and making sure that I have a solid routine for taking care of my skin. It has helped tremendously with looking and feeling better. So I cannot stress enough to you how essential having a good skin care routine is and taking care of your skin’s needs.

7. Communication is key.

Growing up I saw the downsides to lack of communication and the detrimental effects it has to any kind of relationship. Even do, I still fail to communicate properly most of the time. So technically I am still learning how to communicate effectively, but I can at least attest to knowing the significance of it and how far it can take you.

8. Take time for yourself.

We have a very limited amount of time on this planet and we can’t spend all of that time on other people. Sometimes we have to take time for ourselves and do things that we enjoy. I have learned that taking time for myself and just relaxing on my own really helps me stay motivated and helps with creativity. It’s also great to just relax sometimes and not worry about external responsibilities.

9. It’s okay to outgrow people.

Not everyone is meant to be in your life forever and that’s okay. Sometimes we outgrow the people in our lives or they outgrow us. Sometimes it’s not anything personal at all. It’s just a matter of people grow and change. And we just have to learn to be okay with and accept that people come and go in different stages of life.

10. Don’t be so hard on yourself.

This is something that took a really long time for me to learn and I pretty much had to learn the hard way. I used to be way too hard on myself and still struggle with this at time. But I have learned that I can’t be perfect at everything and that I won’t be great at everything I try. Not everything will work out the way I want it to and that’s okay.

11. Appreciate what you have.

Gratitude is something we all need to have. Even when life isn’t perfect all the time, there are still so many things to be grateful for. I try to lead my days and end my days with gratitude because I know I could be much worse off than I am. So it’s really important to me I express my gratitude and thank God for the many blessing that He has given me.

12. Treat Yourself.

This is a fun one, but it’s also an essential one. I find that treating myself keeps me motivated to work hard and really push forward to reach various goals that I have. So a really big life lesson I have learned, especially in the past few years, is the value of treating yourself and rewarding yourself for any job well done.

13. Be open-minded.

Especially in the society we live in today and everything going on, I think it is extremely important to be open-minded and not live in a box with your thinking and views on the world and other people. Just because someone looks different, thinks different, or acts different from you does not make them bad unless they are doing something to harm someone else.

14. It is okay to say no.

“No” is a full sentence. You don’t need to explain yourself, your reasoning, or your thoughts. You are allowed to say no if that is how you feel. Don’t feel the need to justify yourself. Learn to say no with confidence and don’t let people try to manipulate you. Life is just to short for all of that nonsense. You are allowed to say no, no matter what.

15. Follow your passions.

We are all born with passions and if you haven’t found your passion yet, I highly recommend looking into it. I believe that we should all follow our passions because we were each born with one for a specific reason. It’s something that we offer the world that most other people don’t get to. So we should use our passions for good and to help benefit other people.

16. Failure is important.

We spend a lot of time trying to avoid failure and not trying things that we aren’t sure we can succeed at. But I have learned that failure is extremely important. It’s how we grow. We learn far more from failing than succeeding. And also, the only true failure is never trying at all because then you will never know.

17. Asking for help is not a weakness.

One of my biggest weaknesses is admitting that I need help and I can’t do something alone. But I am learning that asking for help is not a weakness. Sure, not everyone is going to want to help you, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some people out there who do want to help you. You just have to keep asking until you get the help you need.

18. Shortcuts aren’t always helpful.

Shortcuts may seem easier, but they aren’t really. They usually end up causing more grief and more harm than if you have just put in the time and effort to get what you wanted or where you needed to go. Shortcuts don’t often do us any favors, so I try to avoid them as much as possible. Just do what needs to be done and move forward at the pace you need to.

19. You are never stuck.

Maybe you are temporarily stuck, but even then you have the opportunity to make certain moves and make decisions that allow you to get unstuck. You are only stuck if you choose to remain where you are and not move forward. But you aren’t stuck forever if you are willing to do what you need to do to move forward.

20. For the right people, you are not in the way.

For the right people you are enough. For the right people your presence has value. For the right people you belong. You are never in the way for the right people. If anyone makes you feel like you don’t belong or they don’t want you around then move on. You don’t need or deserve those people in your life.

21. Don’t apologize for who you are.

You are who you are and there is absolutely no reason to apologize for that. You exist for a reason. You have a purpose. You have dreams and goals and visions and ideas. Never apologize for any of that. You deserve to be here just as much as anyone else. You have a place in this world. You matter. Always remember that and never apologize for taking up space or expressing yourself. The world needs it.

22. Someone will always have something to say about your choices.

“You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world and there will still be someone who hates peaches.” Not everyone is going to be okay with the choices you make. Not everyone is going to approve of the way you live your life. But it’s your life. So when those people come to you with negative opinions, ask yourself if you asked them. If not, ignore those opinions and keep living your life.

23. Your bad habits are not a part of who you are.

Most of us, I would argue all of us, have at least one bad habit. We have a habit that’s not good for us and that we wish we could break. Many of us have multiple bad habits. Well the good news is those bad habits are not a part of who you are and they can be changed. You can break those habits with willpower, time, patience, and effort. You are capable of changing your bad habits.
