Self Care Habits I Swear By

Hey guys! Welcome back. If you have been around for a while you know that I love self care. I am a huge advocate for making sure you are taking care yourself in as many ways as possible. So today I wanted to share a few of the self care habits in my life that I swear by. These are things I try to incorporate into my life as much as possible, especially when life is normal and I have a lot going on. So hopefully these help you come up with your own self care habits whether you take from this list or think of your own!

But before we dive into my personal self care habits I would like to share something with you that I think is always important to keep in mind. Self care in any way is not selfish. Some people may try to make you feel badly for taking care of yourself because you aren’t using your time for other people. But always remember that you can’t pour from an empty cup. So self care is not in any way selfish. These are also not “guilty pleasures” or things I “treat myself to”. These are things that I do to make sure I am taking care of myself as much as possible. There is nothing guilty about them. They are simply things that help me feel my best. So now, let’s get into the self care habits that I swear by!

A good skin care routine.

Never underestimate the power of a good skin care routine. I know the importance of taking care of my skin and keeping it as healthy as possible. So I always try to keep up with it as much as possible. It’s something that I started prioritizing a few years ago and it has really changed my skin from the way it looks to the way it feels. Having a skin care routine that I love and that works for me helps me make sure I am doing what is best for my skin and giving it what it needs. Once I found products that I love and a routine that works for me, I was never able to go back to not doing my routine everyday.

Do something for yourself before anyone else.

I start my day everyday by making sure I am doing something for myself before I start attending to anyone else’s needs. Sometimes that doing a devotional, sometimes it’s reading a book, and sometimes it’s accomplishing something on my to-do list that is just for me. But the idea is that I always try to make time for myself in the morning because once I open myself up to the world, it is difficult to get time back that’s just for me. So I always try to start my day doing something that’s just for me before I look at my phone, my computer, or anything else.

Find a workout you love.

There are several apps, websites, and Pinterest images that have great workouts. And whether you do it at a gym, in your house, or somewhere else entirely is up to you. The key is to find a workout that you enjoy so that working out isn’t something you feel forced to do, but rather it’s something you want to do. Having a workout I love in a space that I feel comfortable doing it in is key to both my physical health and my mental health. Having a solid workout routine that I look forward to everyday truly changed the game for me. So I highly recommend this if you are looking for somewhere to start in terms of self care.

Reading.

I try to make time for reading everyday. Even if it’s just a few pages, I always try to get in some kind of reading. It helps me learn and grow. I especially love personal development and self-help books. But reading is a way for me to challenge myself and opens my eyes to so many different ideas and perspectives. So reading is a habit that I have started prioritizing more over the past couple of months and it’s something I have fallen back in love with.

Connecting with people you love.

Whether it’s friends or family, having that time to connect with people you love is so important. It’s always nice to feel supported and encouraged in as many ways as possible, so lean on your support system when you need time for self care. Talk with people about how you are feeling, what you are going through, and potentially even what you might need help on. There are so many people that we value in our lives but we don’t always keep in touch with them as often as we should. So when it comes to self care I try to touch base with as many people in one day as I can. I don’t talk to everyone every single day, but I try every few days or so to check in.
